# The Main Lakes Around Arandas

Located in the heart of the Bugey region, Arandas is ideally situated for exploring several remarkable lakes, perfect for swimming, hiking, fishing, or simply relaxing. ### Lake Bleu (Ambérieu-en-Bugey) – 40 min A former quarry transformed into a remarkable natural site, this lake owes its name to the striking blue color of its waters. Its unique setting and surrounding cliffs make it a favorite destination for walkers and photography enthusiasts. ### Lake Ambléon – 15 min A small mountain lake surrounded by forests at an altitude of 712 meters (2,336 ft). Known for its peaceful and unspoiled setting, it is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Bugey region. Swimming is regulated to help preserve this sensitive natural environment. ### Lake Virieu-le-Grand – 20 min A family-friendly lake with a landscaped beach and supervised swimming area during the summer. It is popular for picnics, fishing, and leisurely walks. ### Lake Nantua – 35 min The largest natural lake in the Ain department. Nestled between the cliffs of the Haut-Bugey, it offers swimming, sailing, paddleboarding, fishing, and a beautiful lakeside promenade. ### Lake Genin – 45 min Nicknamed “The Little Canada of Haut-Bugey,” this high-altitude lake surrounded by fir trees is renowned for its wild and natural atmosphere. Ideal for hiking, swimming, and outdoor activities. ### Lake Sylans – 40 min Famous for its 19th-century icehouses, this lake offers spectacular scenery. Swimming is not permitted, but the walking and cycling routes around the lake are stunning. ### Lake Bourget – 1 hour The largest natural lake in France, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, beaches, marinas, and the spa town of Aix-les-Bains. An exceptional setting between lake and mountains. ### Lake Annecy – 1 hr 15 min Considered one of the purest lakes in Europe, Lake Annecy is famous for its turquoise waters, beaches, cycling path, and the charm of the town of Annecy. A must-visit destination for a day trip. ### Point Vert Leisure Center – 50 min Located in Serrières-de-Briord, the Point Vert Leisure Center is set on the shores of Lake Buffières, a former meander of the Rhône River covering approximately 200 hectares. This popular recreation area offers supervised swimming, water sports, and family-friendly outdoor activities in a beautiful natural setting. ### Longeville Leisure Center – 39 min Located in Ambronay, the Longeville Water Sports Center is a leisure area surrounded by nature on the shores of Lake Longeville. Managed by the Ain Valley Canoe-Kayak Club, it offers canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding on the lake, as well as guided descents along the Ain River. It is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking both relaxation and adventure.
