History of the House
The Manos family home, located in the hamlet of Indrieux in Arandas, was purchased in 1927 by Jules Manos from Mrs. Ferrand, wife of Amédée Passelac.
Before the arrival of the Manos family, the house belonged to the Ferrand family, who had been present in Indrieux since the 1600s. Originally farmers, the Ferrand family gradually evolved over the generations into various roles within local society. Among them was Anthelme Ferrand, born in Indrieux, who came from this old Bugey family line.
To this day, no precise construction date has yet been found within the house. However, several architectural features suggest that parts of the building are very old: French-style ceilings, exposed beams, stone walls, and numerous split levels reflect the many transformations of this large rural home over the centuries. This variety of levels and staircases still contributes today to the house’s unique and authentic charm.
Filled with history and family memories, the house bears witness to several centuries of rural life in the heart of the Bugey region, shaped by agriculture, family heritage, and the evolution of generations.
Historical research on the house and the Ferrand, Passelac, and Manos families is only just beginning and will undoubtedly reveal even more over time about the history of the property and the people who lived there
